Kenya
A leading Laikipia conservancy and sanctuary for the world’s last northern white rhinos, with East Africa’s largest black rhino population.
Ol Pejeta combines serious, internationally recognised conservation work with an accessible, well-run safari experience on the Laikipia plateau below Mount Kenya. It is best known as the last refuge of the two remaining northern white rhinos on the planet, kept under round-the-clock protection, and it holds East Africa’s largest sanctuary population of the more numerous black rhino subspecies. Beyond rhinos, the conservancy supports healthy numbers of lion, leopard and cheetah, and runs a sanctuary for chimpanzees rescued from conflict zones and the pet trade elsewhere in Africa — animals not native to Kenya but cared for here in large naturalistic enclosures. Activities go beyond the standard game drive, including night drives, mountain biking and rhino tracking on foot with conservancy rangers.
