Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or airport, depending on your arrival schedule. Drive southeast toward Amboseli National Park, passing through changing landscapes and local communities. Amboseli is located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. When weather conditions are clear, the snow-capped summit provides an extraordinary backdrop for wildlife photography. Arrive at your lodge or camp around lunchtime. After lunch and a short rest, depart for your first Amboseli game drive. The park's open plains, swamps and seasonal wetlands attract large concentrations of wildlife. Wake early for a morning game drive. Early morning is an excellent time for wildlife viewing and photography, and it can also provide the clearest opportunity for Mount Kilimanjaro views before clouds build around the summit. Explore the park's plains and wetlands while searching for elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and other wildlife. Return to your accommodation for breakfast before departing Amboseli. Travel toward Kenya's Great Rift Valley and continue to Lake Naivasha. Arrive at your lodge or camp in the afternoon. Lake Naivasha Experience Depending on your arrival time and selected package, enjoy a boat excursion on Lake Naivasha. The freshwater lake is famous for its hippos and abundant birdlife. During the boat ride, you may see: Hippos African fish eagles Pelicans Herons Egrets Cormorants Kingfishers Giraffes along the shoreline Enjoy the peaceful scenery before returning to your accommodation. Enjoy breakfast before departing Lake Naivasha for the Masai Mara National Reserve. The drive takes you through the Great Rift Valley and toward Narok, the main gateway to Maasai country. Continue toward the Mara ecosystem and arrive at your lodge or camp for lunch. After lunch and some relaxation, begin your afternoon Masai Mara game drive. The open grasslands make it possible to cover large areas while searching for wildlife. Today is dedicated entirely to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Wake early and depart after breakfast for an extended game drive. The Masai Mara is one of Africa's most productive wildlife ecosystems and is particularly famous for its big cats. Your guide will follow wildlife activity and explore areas where animals have recently been sighted. Big Five Wildlife The reserve is home to all five members of Africa's Big Five: Lion Leopard Elephant Buffalo Rhino You can also encounter cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, crocodiles and numerous antelope species. Great Migration If you're visiting during the migration season, your guide will monitor wildlife movements and help identify areas where wildebeest and zebra are concentrated. The dramatic Mara River crossings are generally associated with July to October, although exact timing varies according to rainfall and grazing conditions. River crossings are natural events and cannot be guaranteed on a particular day. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the game drive before continuing your exploration. Return to camp or lodge in the evening.
