Uganda
East Africa’s adventure-sports capital, built around the point where the White Nile begins its 6,650km journey out of Lake Victoria.
Jinja marks the spot, confirmed by 19th-century explorer John Hanning Speke, where the White Nile begins its journey out of Lake Victoria toward Egypt and the Mediterranean — a geographically significant moment that a short boat trip still delivers today, gliding out over the calm water where the lake visibly tips into a river. The town built its modern identity, though, on what happens a few kilometres downstream: the Nile’s grade 3 to 5 rapids around Bujagali make this one of the best whitewater rafting destinations anywhere, drawing operators and adventure travellers from across the world, alongside kayaking, bungee jumping and zip-lining options clustered along the same stretch of river. It works well as a one- or two-night add-on to a Uganda primate safari — an adrenaline and lake-relaxation counterpoint to gorilla and chimp trekking, and a reasonably short drive from both Kampala and Entebbe.
Immerse yourself in a curated collection of experiences designed to connect you deeply with the spirit of the region. From adrenaline-fueled adventures to quiet moments of discovery, explore the diverse ways to tailor your journey.
