Pods of bottlenose and humpback dolphins are resident in the channel and reliably encountered on boat trips out from Shimoni, while the reef itself offers some of the clearest, most colourful snorkelling on the Kenyan coast. The nearby community-run island of Wasini adds a cultural dimension — a slow walk through a centuries-old Swahili settlement, coral-rag architecture, and a lunch of freshly grilled seafood overlooking the channel.
