A dry-country reserve on the Ewaso Ng’iro River, sharing the “Samburu Special Five” wildlife with neighbouring Samburu across the water.
Buffalo Springs sits on the southern bank of the Ewaso Ng’iro River, separated from Samburu National Reserve only by the water and a couple of bridges, and the two function in practice as a single ecosystem with a shared game-viewing circuit. The reserve takes its name from a cluster of natural springs that, along with the river, sustain a band of green doum palms and acacia woodland through the surrounding semi-desert. Its flatter, more open terrain makes for easier game viewing than the rockier ground at Samburu, and the same arid-adapted species draw visitors here — Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and beisa oryx among them — alongside healthy predator numbers that move freely across the river system. It’s a quieter, less-visited alternative within the same combined park complex.
Immerse yourself in a curated collection of experiences designed to connect you deeply with the spirit of the region. From adrenaline-fueled adventures to quiet moments of discovery, explore the diverse ways to tailor your journey.
