Yes. Gorilla trekking is extremely safe thanks to armed rangers, strict conservation rules, and professional guides. Uganda Wildlife Authority ensures full security in all trekking regions.

It is moderately challenging. Trails can be steep, muddy, or covered in thick vegetation. Treks last 2–6 hours depending on gorilla movements. Porters are available and highly recommended.

Typical cost per person:

Best months:

  • June–September

  • December–February

These months have dry weather, easier trekking, and better photography conditions.

You are allowed to view gorillas from 7 meters, but gorillas may approach you on their own — you must remain calm and follow ranger instructions.

A permit includes:
✔ One gorilla trek
✔ Park entry
✔ Ranger guides
✔ Conservation fees
✔ Security

Transportation, meals, and accommodation are separate.

Book 3–6 months in advance, especially for peak season (June–Sept). Permits sell out fast due to limited daily allocations.

  • Long trousers

  • Long-sleeved shirt

  • Hiking boots

  • Rain jacket

  • Gardening gloves

  • Gaiters (optional)

  • Hat and sunscreen
